Our School is given a grant towards the cost of provision of Sports for our children.

This academic year, 2018-19, the school received £17,760.

**UPDATE** The school has joined the Bracknell Forest 'Service Level Agreement' for PE using the Sports Grant. This means that we can access specialised support, attend networking meetings with other schools in the borough to share ideas and develop staff. We can also take part in 3 borough wide events; multi-sports, multi-skills sessions and a 'Tri-golf' tournament for Year 2 children.

Key things we have done this year are:

  • Sent 2 members of staff on Real PE 3 day training, which will be disseminated to all teachers moving forward. Mrs Nicholas will be our Specialist PE teacher from September using the programme to teach PE to the children but also HOW to teach PE to teachers!
  • Purchased the 'Wake up Shake up' DVD collection to get us moving and energised for learning.
  • Paid toward swimming lessons for Year 2 children, which is an important life skill and experience we pledge to give all children the opportunity to take part in.
  • Purchased lots of new playground equipment and resource to keep us busy and active at break and lunchtimes.
  • Funded coaches to enable children our children to compete in competitive sport across the borough.
  • Most impressively, we used some of the grant to contribute towards brand new playground equipment to replace old, broken and inadequate installation.

Some of the grant received by Holly Spring Infant and Nursery School contributes towards a specialised sports coach that we employ at the school.

Our sports coach teaches all children in the school and brings specialist expertise, such as high quality gymnastics sessions which are beyond the skill-set of the class teachers.

The coach also runs 3 after school clubs: gymnastics, dance and football which are really popular.  The coach is able to take his knowledge of the children from their PE sessions and enhances their enjoyment of sport after school.

Combined with contribution from our Pupil Premium Grant, our coach also provides lunch-time sports activities for children in the Summer Term, who benefit greatly from this. The Sports Premium Grant also contributes to buying new resources and equipment for the children to use to develop their skills.

Teachers regularly receive training on PE skills, games and activities from the coach to use with their classes and will observe specialist coaching sessions to improve their personal practice. We also purchased a handbook of warm up games and activities for staff for them to lead their own PE sessions and develop their sporting skills.

Please contact the school if you would like further information on how we spend our Primary PE and Sport Premium Grant.
